DRUMS AT DAWN

Drums at Dawn

This two-part series tells the story of the Columbian sharp-tailed grouse, a native bird struggling for survival in the western United States. Guided by biologist Stephanie Galla at Boise State University's Conservation Lab, the films reveal how science, habitat restoration, and community action come together to protect this vulnerable species.

Part 1 captures the grouse in their seasonal rhythms, including the dramatic mating dances performed on active leks in Idaho.

Part 2 takes viewers behind the scenes of conservation—uncovering the genetic research, fieldwork, and partnerships driving efforts to secure the bird’s future.

With striking imagery and accessible science, Drums at Dawn invites audiences to learn, to care, and to join the work of conservation.
